Vent-A-Kiln captures and removes unpleasant fumes, odors, and heat from kilns. It is a close-capture fume system designed for low cubic-feet per minute (CFM) and static pressure applications. Standard and custom models are available for use in schools and in other educational or commercial facilities by professionals and hobbyists alike.
Kiln Emissions Can Be Harmful
Electric kilns use large quantities of high-current electricity to generate enough heat to "fire" artwork properly. In some instances, internal temperatures can exceed 2200º F (1204°C).
During the firing process, the clay medium undergoes a metamorphosis. Several chemical reactions take place within clays and glazes, causing various organic and inorganic chemicals and minerals to expel toxic fumes at high temperatures.
Toxic and odorous fumes can exit the kiln and accumulate to create an unhealthy and unsafe working environment. Electric kilns also produce significant levels of heat, which can create unpleasantly warm conditions in the surrounding area.
Vent-A-Kiln - The First Solution
In 1983, Vent-A-Kiln Corp. recognized these potentially hazardous problems and developed a solution by creating the world's first commercially manufactured ventilation system specifically for use with electric kilns.
Taking advantage of the natural tendency of heat to rise, Vent-A-Kiln exhausts fumes and heat away from the work area, allowing teachers, artisans, or others to create new work while ready pieces are firing.
The design incorporates a hood that is lowered close to the top of the kiln via an overhead pulley and counterweight system. The hood extends past the exterior dimension of the kiln to ensure effective coverage on top of and around the source of fumes.
A blower mounted on top of the hood creates a draw on top of the kiln where heated fumes are already traveling upward. The blower ensures that the fumes are collected and vented properly. The flexible hose carries the exhaust to an externally mounted louvered exit plate.
Remove Toxic Fumes, Heat & Odors from your Kiln for Less than 1¢ per Hour!
Hoods positioned close to the kiln will only capture and vent fumes and heat as they exit. This method does not upset the balance of heat load within the kiln. No cold spots inside the kiln. No delayed heat-up times or reduction in firing capability. No kiln modification needed. Vent-A-Kiln Hoods hang 2" above kiln, never coming in contact with the kiln, therefore no motor vibrations will disturb your kiln. This model fits round kilns with a diameter of 24" to 28".
Vent-A-Kiln is covered with a full 3-year warranty on all parts. All systems include a conical aluminum hood, 2 speed fan/motor (blower), overhead counter weight pulley system, 10 ft. of flexible duct, all necessary clamps and an externally mounted back draft louver with bird screen.
No extra parts to purchase. Vent-A-Kiln System is light, portable and easy to install.
Select the standard Positive Pressure System Or The Optional Negative Pressure System +$88.00
Standard Positive-pressure Systems
Vent-A-Kiln for electric kilns is supplied standard as a “positive pressure” system. The fan is attached directly to the hood and “pushes” the heat and fumes to the exit point.
Optional Negative-pressure Systems
A “negative-pressure” system puts the fan where it can draw or “pull” the heat and fumes from the kiln and bring them to the exit point. Negative pressure is often specified as a safeguard against a tear in the hose. Any pre-engineered system can be modified easily for a negative-pressure application.
You can add the optional swinging arm bracket.
The Swingarm bracket allows you to move the vent from side to side out of the way.
Add a Mini Time controller to your kiln vent.
Our mini-timer controllers allow you to program your Vent-A-Kiln or Vent-A-Fume overhead ventilation system to turn on at the beginning of the kiln firing process or fume extraction for process emissions and turn off when excess heat and fumes are removed from the work area. It is ideal for electric kilns, electric ovens, and small electric furnaces.
Automatic start-up of ventilation prior to kiln firing is a safety measure to eliminate the potential hazard of forgetting to turn the system on. Automatic shutdown ensures that all fumes have been eliminated from the area and contributes to energy efficient operation.
